My Journey So Far
Originally from Woodacre, California (about an hour north of San Francisco), I am an American-Australian with family and friends in both countries. I lived there for 11 years, Margaret River in Western Australia for 3 years, then moved to Melbourne, Victoria in late 2005 and never left.
I was interested in basically everything at high-school, but none of it really grabbed me as a career path. I settled on Games Design and Development, taking the IT course of the same name at Deakin University (Burwood) from 2009 to 2012 and graduating with a Bachelor of IT (with Distinction). Despite enjoying the majority of the subject matter there also, I struggled to find a place to really let loose with the skills I learned… which eventually led me to UX. Turns out, I’ve been doing this stuff for years, just without knowing it or really focusing/refining it. Word-of-mouth brought me to General Assembly Melbourne, and I finished their 10-week User Experience Design Immersive (UXDI) course.
Design Stuff (UX, Digital and Games)
As you may be aware, this site isn’t fully finished yet and I don’t have summaries of everything on every second page, so please avail yourself of the links at the top of the page. They have what you seek, probably.
Personal Stuff
Reading
I read quite fast – I can read a 500 page novel in 3.5 hours, having never read it before. Massive Star Wars collection with over 100 different books. I’ll get a picture of that soon. I also enjoy Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, and Matthew Reilly action novels.
Lego
Do not get me started on Lego. I have enough of the stuff that any project takes me weeks and occupies the floor (and any other available surface) of an entire room or two. I don’t use instructions either – I make my own stuff from scratch, as with any other design tool I use.
Gaming
Including but not limited to computer games, card games, board games and mobile apps. I particularly enjoy the computer games League of Legends, Diablo III, StarCraft II, and Gems of War – and the board games 7 Wonders, Ticket to Ride, and Viticulture.
Pizza
I may be addicted to pizza. Some concerned individuals are convinced that it makes up 1/3 of my diet. I don’t question them.
